Attendance Reminders

The following are the school’s policies regarding late arrivals and/or early dismissals: ​

Arrival Time	Code in the System
Between 7:46 - 8:45 AM	Tardy
Between 8:46 - 11:30 AM	½ day of attendance
After 11:30 AM	Full day absent

Early Dismissal	Code in the System
Before 11:30 AM	Full day absent
Between 11:30 AM - 2:00 PM	½ day of attendance
After 2:00 PM	Full day of attendance

Absences

When your child is absent, you should notify the school by phone on the day of the absence. You must also submit a written note identifying the cause of the absence. If you don’t submit a note with your child, the day will be marked as an unexcused absence. The phone call is just a verbal communication to let us know that your child will not be in school. However, by law, we still need a written note describing the cause of the absence. Please keep this in mind the next time your child is absent from school. I would also like to clarify that not all the notes you send to our school qualify under the excused absence policy authorized by the Board of Education. Excused absences will be granted only under the following situations:

1. Student’s illness
2. Observance of a religious holiday (absence note must be provided prior to absence) 
3. Death in the immediate family
4. Family emergency
5. Circumstances which cause reasonable concern to the parent for their child’s safety or health (approved by the principal)
6. Other situations beyond the control of the student (as determined by the principal)

All other causes/reasons for absences are considered unexcused based on the Chicago Public School Attendance Code.
